Our Message
We believe that none of us is perfect, but Jesus is. He was perfect in keeping God’s standard of right and wrong in our place. His death on the cross perfectly atoned for all our sins. For Jesus’ sake God now considers us righteous, and he forgives and forgets all our sins.
We believe that God reveals himself to us and communicates with us through the Bible, God’s Word. We believe all of the Bible to be his Word, true in all that it says. God breathed into the Bible writers both the ideas he wanted them to convey and the very words he wanted them to use. It is for this reason that the Word of God is at the center of our personal and congregational life. We believe that Jesus’ words and promises regarding Holy Baptism and Holy Communion make them effective in offering and giving the forgiveness of sins, new life, and salvation.
We believe that God gives us eternal life as a free gift through faith in Jesus and his finished work. For that reason we believe that life can be lived with confidence and joy and in gratitude to God who loved us and loves us still.
We believe that we exist as a Christian congregation to nurture one another and to share the story of God’s love in Jesus Christ with those who have no church home. May we serve you?

History - Past and Present
Ascension Lutheran Church (71 souls, 59 communicants) began in 1920 at Palmetto and Van Dyke in Detroit. 50 years later so many of its members had relocated to the Roseville area that the congregation relocated to that suburb. Nearly 30 years later the congregation had dwindled in numbers and the decision was made to apply for mission status and move to northern Clinton Township with an eye toward serving the rapidly growing population in Clinton and Macomb Townships.
After several years of renting space in an office building, and following a couple of starts and stops in the process of land purchase and building planning, the congregation was suddenly catapulted into its target area of Macomb Township. God moved the heart of a faithful member of the congregation to leave her estate to Ascension. That gift gave a significant infusion of funds into the congregation’s building fund. On January 20, 2015 Ascension closed on the purchase of a 10,000 square foot church building on 11 acres. The congregation immediately set about renovating the building. The land on which the congregation had planned to build was sold and the proceeds applied to the purchase and renovation of the new building. On June 28, 2015 the beautifully renovated building was dedicated to the glory of God and the service of the gospel.
Ascension Lutheran Church is blooming in the new location on 23 Mile Rd., a major thoroughfare through the very heart of growing Macomb Township. Since dedicating the church on June 28th, the congregation has had first time visitors in every worship service. A number of those visitors have become every-week worshippers. The congregation is building bridges into the community by hosting an area youth baseball league on its ball diamond, a Monday night Alcoholics Anonymous chapter in the fellowship room, and a road test service in the parking lot. Those activities bring scores of people onto Ascension’s site each week, build positive community awareness, and provide valuable “good neighbor” services to the community. Ascension will soon begin investigating starting an early childhood ministry. Ascension is served since August 2013 by Pastor Dan Simons.
